I had been getting notices for awhile for the Julep Maven box. I finally decided to bite, though I’m not a nail polish fanatic so I’m not too sure if I will keep this subscription for long.
Julep has their own product line and though it includes skincare and other items, the main focus is the polish. After receiving my first box, I later found out that Julep will often put out special edition “mystery” boxes. This review is for one of those. (See my other Julep reviews here.)
Let’s get this show on the road!
THE DETAILS: This special edition mystery box retails for $24.99 and is not eligible for the 50% discount I received in the last box. However, I was able to purchase an “add-on” item and received the 50% discount for that item. The normal Julep Maven box costs $24.99 per month and you typically get two polishes and a beauty product of some sort, based on some preferences you fill out when you join. You also get a short window each month to make some selections for the next month’s box. This box ships throughout the U.S. and Canada and shipping is included in the price. It is non-refundable but every six months Julep will give you a “skip” option to skip a box.
This came in a ginormous box that included both the add-on item and the mystery box itself. The first look is rather impressive, don’t you think? For my add-on item, I picked Julep’s Mind Your Mani set which as an add-on retails for $19.99 but with my coupon, I got it for $9.99. It actually is currently on special for $45 but has a value of $75. The set includes: Mighty Nail & Cuticle Serum, Freedom Polymer Top Coat, Oxygen Nail Treatment, and three Nail Moisture Masks.
Here’s the mystery box at first glance. It is packed full! So while I may not in the end like every item, I already feel like I probably got my money’s worth.
Since this box came out around Halloween, Julep included a sweet bonus item. I love candy corn, ridiculously enough, and this was just the right amount to assuage the craving without having to buy a huge bag. Thanks, Julep! Retail value is maybe $0.50. Here’s a great article on the history of candy corn.
The next item was this Doublestep Foot Treatment & Friction Stick. I get pedicures fairly regularly but in between times this will help to keep the soles of my feet soft. So I’m excited about this product. It retails for $22.
The first polish in this box was called Estelle and was described by Julep as midnight black with holographic shimmer. I like this color and have nothing like it…definitely a keeper! Retail price for this is $14.
The next polish is called Jodie. It is described as a rosy mauve with gold shimmer. I do have a color like this already so to the swap pile it goes. This retails for $14.
The final polish in the box is one called Catrina. It is a marigold yellow crème and also a color that I have. Great minds, Julep! It has a retail value of $14.
But there are still items in the box! Julep included this really nice eyeshadow brush which I look forward to gifting since I have so many brushes already. This retails for $18.
Also included is their Blank Canvas Mattifying Eye Primer. This is also a product I have but I bet it will make a great swap! It retails for $22.
Last but not least is this full-size palette of beautiful neutral eye shadows! I am kicking myself because I spent a small fortune on the Naked 3 collection. Still, it’s a gorgeous item and retails for $24.
Ok, so I’m so stoked at the value I got that I almost don’t need to do a tally. I may cancel the monthly subscription and just purchase limited edition boxes from here on out! In any case, for the mystery box, I paid $24.99 and received a total value of $128.50. If you add the value of the add-on item, then I paid $34.99 and received a total value of $203.50. I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty happy and look forward to any holiday mystery boxes that may come this way.
