Birchbox is a pretty popular box and since it has such a low price point, I figured it was worth a shot to try it out. I was actually turned on to it because I saw their limited edition Fall Fete box and purchased this monthly box alongside it.
I did a doubleheader on this box for September/October which you can read here.
This will be my third month of this box and I’m planning on using it to solidify my decision around keeping or passing on this subscription.
THE DETAILS: The normal women’s Birchbox subscription goes for $10 a month and you get mostly mini-samples and deluxe samples of items. The full size versions are available for sale on their site. They also have a men’s version that goes for $20.
Full-size items that you purchase on Birchbox are returnable within 90 days for free. The subscription boxes are not. Boxes can be shipped throughout the U.S. and its territories, unless it contains hazardous materials (some cosmetic products) in which case there are limitations. Birchbox also has a points system whereby you get points for ordering full-size products, referrals, and for reviewing your Birchbox samples. Points can later be used towards more full-size products.
This month there were several different box varieties to choose from. I opted to go with the the (RED) box as this partnership will help raise money and awareness for the global fight against AIDS.
Here’s the first look for the November (RED) box. I see some things that look interesting in there so excited to dig in!
The first item I gravitated towards was this deluxe sample of Not Soap, Radio Body Wash. It has a green & white tea and clover scent which is both intriguing and divine. I can’t wait to try it! Plus it’s green…my favorite color! Retail value for this sample is about $1.76.
The next item is a deluxe sample of Royal Apothic Cuppa Cuppa Firming Tea Treatment Mask. Really stoked to try this since it seems not to include any silicones and I love tea. Retail value for this is approximately $9.67.
I’ve seen this brand as a popular dry shampoo. This is Klorane’s Make-up Remover Water for sensitive face and eyes. I tend to have persnickety skin so even though the sensitive nature of this sounds good I will probably swap it as I don’t like to shake up my skincare regimen too much. It has a retail value of about $2.12.
Another deluxe sample, this one for Supergoop!’s CC Cream. I’ve been seeing this brand everywhere but again I have a CC cream that I trust so I’ll swap this for something else I can use. Estimated retail value for this is $2.04.
What a sweet inclusion! ;o) It’s a sample of Chuao Chocolatier’s Honeycomb and chocolate bar. I actually prefer the version with potato chips but chocolate always wins in my book. This has a retail value of about $0.84.
The final item is a deluxe sample of Cynthia Rowley’s Creamy Lip Stain in Dahlia. This is an “of the moment” berry color and will also get swapped since I’m not a fan of stain’s, nor of the berry color. Chock it up to having lived through the 90s and not wanting to cross the line back over! It has a retail value of about $9.29.
That makes the total value for this box $25.72. Considering I paid $10 for this box, that’s pretty good. Also, I got a couple of samples of products I’m excited about. That said, I find that I’m really “sampled” out, particularly for make-up items. So while I’m glad I got to try this box out, I think I’m going to stick with either their full-size products or their limited edition boxes.
