Subscription Box Insanity: Bespoke Post Mystery Black Box (Dec. ’14)

One man's subscription

One man’s subscription

Don’t you just love a good mystery? Well Bespoke Post offered a free Mystery Black Box with a certain dollar purchase on Black Friday. We waited very excitedly for it’s arrival and now that it’s here, can’t wait to tear it open!

As noted previously, my husband doesn’t take a shine to much…he doesn’t have the shopping bug like me. So he’s been very pleased with his one and only subscription box and I’m really hoping that this little add-on box doesn’t disappoint!

With that said, let’s find out what’s inside!

THE DETAILS: Bespoke post is a monthly subscription box that caters to men. According to their website, they “scour the world for time-tested, small-batch, or otherwise remarkable gear”. They then put together two, themed boxes each month and the subscriber can choose one or the other, or to skip that month’s offerings entirely. This works just fine for the hubby, who actually isn’t a big fan of surprises and is always poking around looking for the holiday gifts. The monthly fee is $45which includes shipping costs. Bespoke Post ships to the U.S. and Canada, as well as military addresses if you email them first. Their site is very man-friendly. Honestly, the language is just way more straight-forward and “guy-speak” then some of my subscription box sites. I actually prefer it, myself. They do accept returns of whole boxes within 30 days of an order placed in the continental U.S.; you can choose either a store credit or true refund, less a $6 restocking fee. They will also pay return shipping and the entire box must be returned in mint condition. For this box, I had a discount code so only paid $31.50. My husband also purchased an add-on product which I’ve included at the end of the review.

As noted previously, this Mystery Black Box was free with a $45 purchase. (Which I think went towards Christmas/Anniversary gifts!)

First Look

First Look

Here’s the first look. Kind of cool that everything is branded for this mini box!

Dr. Squatch Gold Moss Scrub

Dr. Squatch Gold Moss Scrub

First thing out of the box is an item that is well-loved in this house. It’s another Dr. Squatch Gold Moss Scrub soap! Still smells great and I’m sure everyone, including W- who still thinks this is something she should eat- is very glad to have a spare. This retails for $6.

$10 Gift Card

The next item he pulled out is this $10 discount off an order of $75. Items on Bespoke Post are pretty pricey but neither of us has found anything we’d like to purchase before the end of December. Because it requires a purchase, this won’t count toward the value of the box.

Alfred Lane Solid Cologne - Bravado

Alfred Lane Solid Cologne – Bravado

This looks familiar; it’s another Alfred Lane Men’s Solid Cologne but in the Bravado scent. This also smells pretty nice so hubby is happy to keep them both! This retails for $18.

The next item was this Marvis Classic Strong Mint Toothpaste; a travel size. It retails for approximately $1.38.

Stolen Riches Navy Shoelaces

Stolen Riches Navy Shoelaces

These Stolen Riches dress laces in “Mission Blue” (Navy) are very fancy and have metal tips. My husband is a very basic guy so these are going up for swap but he did note that they are named after the home of legendary Dallas Cowboy Coach Landry. Retail value is $17.50.

Line of Trade Leather Cord Carry

Line of Trade Leather Cord Carry

I couldn’t find this Line of Trade item online so I’m going to have to guess at a value of $15 as it’s leather and seems to have a metal/possibly brass accessory. Husband loves anything related to gadgetry so this is also a keeper!

Bittercube Blackstrap Bitters

Bittercube Blackstrap Bitters

Last but not least is Bittercube’s Blackstrap Bittters. We aren’t much for mixed drinks (at least not until we get a bar where we actually have space to mix them) and this looks to be a rather strong variety so up for swap it goes! Still a really nice product that retails for $9.99.

In any case, it’s time for the grand total rundown! This box included six items that had a total retail value of $67.87. That’s definitely above the $45 spent in order to warrant the box so we both feel like that the value is there for a compact little mystery box. And now to surrender my love’s goodies back to him!
