I had been getting notices for awhile for the Julep Maven box. Though I’m not a nail polish fanatic, I finally decided to bite.
Julep has their own product line which includes skincare and other items, with the main focus being the polish. After receiving my first box, I later found out that Julep will often put out special edition “mystery” boxes. This review is for one of those. (See my other Julep reviews here.)
Let’s get this show on the road!
THE DETAILS: This special edition mystery box retails for $24.99 and is typically not eligible for any discount codes, but you can add gift with purchase codes. Julep is running a promotion for a free gym/fitness set with $25 purchase using code AMAZING. So I added one of their less costly items and got a towel/bag set alongside the mystery box. The normal Julep Maven box also costs $24.99 per month and you typically get two polishes and a beauty product of some sort, based on some preferences you fill out when you join. You also get a short window each month to make some selections for the next month’s box. This box ships throughout the U.S. and Canada and shipping is included in the price. It is non-refundable but Julep recently changed their policy such that you can opt out any month that you don’t want to purchase. This change actually inspired me to reactivate my account!
I love these mystery boxes because I feel like you get really good value for your money. Because of the additional items, this came in a ginormous box that included both the add-on item and the mystery box itself.
Here are the two items that came with the gift set. The Julep x RuMe Tote is supposed to be able to hold 50 lbs and is machine washable. It has a retail value of $12. The second item was this Lorna Jane Gym Towel. Looks like her towels go for approximately $29.99. (There is also a $30 discount coupon code for the Lorna Jane site, but it won’t be counted towards the total value since this is an Australian company and shipping runs at least $10 to the U.S. no matter how much you spend.)
I had to purchase an additional item to qualify for the gift with purchase so I chose this oft sold-out item: Julep’s Clean Slate Polish Corrector Pen. Can’t wait to try it since I’m none too clean when I do polish my nails. Retail value for this is $10 but I got it at the Maven price of $8.
Here’s the “Woke Up Like This” mystery box at first glance. As I’ve found to be the case with most Julep mystery boxes, it is full of goodies!
The first item I pull out is Julep’s Night Shift Sleeping Mask. At first I’m not wowed but then I check the ingredient list and see no silicones and I also happen to glance at the instructions and see that this is one of those masks you put on before you go to bed and wash off in the morning. I’ve really been wanting to try one of these! Retail value for this is $34.
The next item was this Julep Blank Canvas Plumping Lip Primer. At this point in my life, I have no need for a plumping lip primer but I’m sure this can be swapped to someone who does. It retails for $22.
Here’s an item that I’m eager to try! I love lip crayons and this Julep Plush Pout Lip Crayon in Aurora Pink Creme is in a nice nude pink shade. I have a favorite from Nars (Isola Bella) but it’s rather expensive and a pain to remember to transfer from one purse to another. So getting a similar shade that I can use to double up my supply is really nice! This has a retail value of $20. [UPDATE: Sadly this color did NOT look good on me. Sort of like a Pepto Bismo smear on my lips. Sad.]
The first polish I pull out of the box is Aurora and is described by Julep as a melted platinum chrome. I like this color and have nothing like it so I’m definitely keeping it! Retail price for this is $14.
The next polish is called Shari. It is described as a delicate sweet pea creme. It certainly is sweet but I can’t decide whether to keep or give it away since it’s along the lines of a french manicure color, and I have a set already. In any case, it retails for $14.
The final polish in the box is one called Tanith and it is either sold out or so new that it hasn’t made it to the site yet. It’s a really pretty color described as a warm putty with gold microglitter. Retail value is $14.
Ok, so once again, I’m so excited at the value in this box that I almost don’t need to do a tally! For the mystery box, I paid $24.99 and received a total value of $118. If you add both the purchase price of the add-on item, as well as the value of that item and the gift set, then I paid $32.99 and received a total value of $169.99. I love almost every item I received, too, so I’m really, really pleased with this purchase. Thanks Julep!
