Subscription Box Insanity: Orange Glad (Jan. ’15)

Orange Glad: Simply Sweet

Orange Glad: Simply Sweet

I’ve had my eye on the Orange Glad subscription service and finally (FINALLY!) I found a deal for it during this year’s Black Friday sales.

I’ve got a hideous sweet tooth which I try not to indulge.  But I’ve decided to make this sweet box work in my favor. I’ve resolved that I will make the sweets that come inside last and try to limit myself to only these sweets during the month, if I can. That seems reasonable, no?

Of course having to wait to write this review also means I won’t be ripping open the package to devour them as soon as they come in…guess that helps too. -grin- (See my other reviews for Orange Glad here.)

THE DETAILS: This box retails for $19.99 a month, which includes shipping. It ships only within the U.S. This box is non-refundable, unless an item arrives damaged. With my six-month box deal, I got each box for about $10.98.

First Look

First Look

Here’s the first look. Love the cute, mint bow and looks like there is goodie packed off to the side that was so much scrumptious it couldn’t be contained!

Sugardaddy's Brunette Sweetie

Sugardaddy’s Auburn Original Brunette Sweetie

Here’s the goodie I noted earlier. It’s Sugardaddy’s Auburn Original Brunette Sweetie. It’s a mix of chocolate and espresso with walnuts. I’m not a big fan of espresso on dessert, or walnuts but I have a party coming up soon and I think this will make a nice hostess gift. The retail value of this is $4.75.

The Vagabond Gourmet Biscotti

Biscuit Gourmet Biscotti: The Vagabond

The next item I pull out is a 4-pack of Biscuit’s “The Vagabond” Biscotti. Biscotti was a bit of an acquired taste for me but since I love milky teas and mochas, I think these will get eaten. These have a retail value of $4.50.

Macbubl Chocolate Macaron

Macbubl Chocolate Macaron

Now here’s a treat I can get behind! I love French macarons and this Macbubl one by New Orleans confectionary Sucre.  (Which sells beautiful Mardi Gras King Cake that they ship!) These are only for sale at Whole Foods and I couldn’t find them on their site so I’m guessing a retail value of $3.

Donsuemor Chocolate Dipped Madeleine

Donsuemor Chocolate Dipped Madeleine

This was the treat that got eaten as soon as the box was opened. I love chocolate-dipped cookies and this Donsuemor Chocolate Dipped Madeleine seemed like a nice, bite-sized treat. Let me just say that I this was the softest, fluffiest madeleine I’ve ever had the pleasure of eating. Almost like a slightly hardened angel food cake! Retail value for one of these is about $0.65.

Mighty Brittle: Orange Blossom

Mighty Brittle: Orange Blossom

The final item in this box is Mighty Brittle’s Orange Blossom Brittle. I’m both intrigued and a little nervous about trying this. Will give you an update once I do and let you know what I thought! Retail value is $6.

All said and done, the value of this box was about $18.90. That’s definitely above what I paid for the box, which makes me happy. It’s not quite break-even with what I would have paid without a discount but as other subscription reviewers I’ve read note, food boxes do tend to come in at lower values. In any case, these are all treats I’ve never seen at the local big-box stores, and many of them are pretty unique as well so I appreciate the curation!

Now…where did I put that macaron?
