I had been getting notices for awhile for the Julep Maven box. Though I’m not a nail polish fanatic, I finally decided to bite and I’m actually really glad I did!
Julep has their own product line which includes skincare and other items, with the main focus being the polish. They are supposed to be made with less harmful ingredients than other polishes and beauty items. After receiving my first box, I later found out that Julep will often put out special edition “mystery” boxes. This review is for one of those. (See my other Julep reviews here.)
Let’s get this show on the road!
THE DETAILS: This special edition mystery box retails for $24.99 and is typically not eligible for any discount codes, but you can add gift with purchase codes. The normal Julep Maven box also costs $24.99 per month and you typically get two polishes and a beauty product of some sort, based on some preferences you fill out when you join. You also get a short window each month to make some selections for the next month’s box. This box ships throughout the U.S. and Canada and shipping is included in the price. It is non-refundable but Julep recently changed their policy such that you can opt out any month that you don’t want to purchase. This change actually inspired me to reactivate my account!
I love these mystery boxes because I feel like you get really good value for your money. This month there was actually a choice between a nail only box or a skincare/beauty-focused box.
Here are the first three polishes in this mystery box. They are Oscar (ultra chic, multi-dimensional gold glitter), Aurora (melted platinum chrome), and Nedra (worn denim creme). Each has a retail value of $14 so have a total value of $42. I own a color similar to Oscar already, and Aurora is also a duplicate for me. But Nedra is a nice color that I plan to hang on to.
The next two polishes are Charmaine (maritime holographic full coverage micro glitter) and Elise (indigo with purple microshimmer). It was the Charmaine glittery blue that caught my eye originally with this box so I’m glad to have it. Elise is a pretty, deep purple but I have a brighter purple that I like so this will get swapped. Retail value these combined is $28.
The final two polishes in the box are Briana (sailor blue crème) and Maryam (dark merlot shimmer). Retail value combined is $28. (Note that also included was one of Julep’s emery boards; it retails for $5.)
Ok, so I think if I hadn’t had such a growing collection (due to Julep being addictive) I would have been delighted by this box. I will at the very least have quite a few items to swap or give! For this mystery box, I paid $24.99 and received a total value of $103. That’s a pretty good deal, I’d say.
Did you get a mystery box this month? Which one and what did you think?
