ModCloth is a women’s clothing and lifestyle company with a decidedly vintage bent. From my own perusals, it seems they focus mostly on shoes and dresses. However, I’ve also been able to pick up really cute wall prints from the site and I still have my eye on a few of their vintage (think 1940s/50s) style bathing suits!
A few times a year, they also have a mystery item sale known as “ModCloth Stylish Surprise“. These items are all final sale and depending on the time of year, will range from dresses and shoes to some of their lifestyle items, all sold at deep discounts. Costs for these mystery items range from $10-$20 and can have values of several hundred. These sales are always very popular and sell out quickly. So I was very excited to finally be able to pick up a few of these mystery items.
Let’s get to the unboxing!
THE DETAILS: This fall’s Stylish Surprise sale allowed customers to purchase a dress for $20, an apparel item (skirt, shirt, etc.) for $15, or a pair of shoes for $10. As with many of their clothing and shoe offering, sizes were available from XS-4X and 5.5-10 (shoes). Items sold in this mystery sale are not returnable.
Here’s my first item:
The first item I pull out is this midi-length, black Jolie Los Angeles dress. It’s made of a thin, jersey material and came without tags. It has a deep cut in the back (see picture). I’m not sure how I feel about this; I will probably end up swapping it as I have a similar dress with longer sleeves which I prefer more. There isn’t a dress like this one for sale on the site anymore, but there are dresses of similar material by this same company and they run for around $49.99.
The next item is black and white skirt by Ryu. They don’t have any skirts listed on the site but their dresses retail for $59.99 and above. I actually rather like this skirt; it’s made of a weighty material and and has an underskirt. I’d guess the price for this is similar to the skirt found here, which is $49.99.
The final clothing item from my surprise is this cute, navy dress with moons from People Tree. I love it! The other dress from this company lists for $129.99 and I’d guess that this well-made item retails for a similar amount.
I also purchased a shoe item and ended up with these brown, vegan leather riding boots by Soda Shoes. I found these on sale at Amazon for $26.99. I’ve got muscular calves but tiny feet and ankles so finding tall boots that fit properly is tough. The nice thing about the laces on the back is that they allow me some give where I need it most. And they are just in time for fall!
So my Stylish Surprises cost me a combined total of $65. I received items with a combined value of approximately $256.96…that’s almost quadruple what I paid! I also feel like I got some really nice items for the value versus cast offs. Yay! Can’t wait for the next round of Stylish Surprises!
What do you think? Did I get a good value?
